The string of text (you are loved) embroidered on this piece is a direct copy of graffiti I found on the wall of an underground restroom in a bar in Berlin. I sometimes find raw messages in the random graffiti that covers the wall, reflecting today’s society’s reality. I was intrigued by the fact that some scribbles we don’t even know who wrote them can generate mutual empathy.
In this work, I embroidered the strings of scribbles in a way that unraveled the organized fabric and brought out what was hidden. It is as if scooping up and carefully reconstructing a line quietly written by an anonymous person in a dark restroom in the basement.
